How to Tell it's Midsummer

How to Tell it's Midsummer

Warm Pimm’s in a plastic cup

There’s cricket on the telly.
Dad’s says he’ll cook if he doesn't miss the highlights. He grabs a cold beer and lights the barbie.
Grandma comes out to supervise and does so without her coat. She tells us the shops have sold out of fans and suntan lotion. There’s a hosepipe ban in force and flood warnings too. The temperature is front page news. Again.
You’ve started another diet, but one burger won't hurt. Someone says, “Only 182 shopping days to Christmas.”
You laugh to hide the sadness as you realise that your spring's over and summer won't last.
