The Meeting
Babyccino: frothy milk
I checked my appearance and my watch for the umpteenth time. Still early, I considered buying a gift, but wanted to keep my hands free. I tried to calm the butterflies in my stomach by breathing deeply. I had anticipated this moment for months; ever since the trip had been booked. The arrivals board informed me the flight had landed. My eyes were trained on the gate although I knew that baggage collection and passport control had to be undergone. Finally my granddaughter was in my arms.
“Where’s Granddad?”
I barely held back my tears. “He can’t be with us.”
