Trick or Cheat
by Dawn Knox
coffee, strong and black
The world belonged to her.
Every grain of sand, every drop of
water.
Hers.
And it had prospered under her
ownership. She'd let the people do as they pleased, within limits, but now she
was about to risk it all on the throw of a die.
If she won, life would carry on as it
had for millennia but if he won... She couldn't bear to
think of the wickedness he would unleash.
It was too late to call the game off.
He handed her the die and she rolled. Too late she realised that he’d tricked
her.
Too late.
