The cage is empty. Joey’s blue-tinged down lies at the cat’s feet. A rough
pink tongue laps fur; whiskers twitch.
‘Hello Boss,’ Tiddles squawks.
‘Oh no!’
Mary will kill me, the budgie was her fortieth birthday present, along
with a brand new cage.
I grab for the cat’s tail, but she is too quick for me. Heading for the
flap, she probably believes she can fly.
