Midnight Mass was over.
Shortly, the congregation would reassemble for the Christmas
Morning service but now, the vicar surveyed his festive church with its
twinkling Christmas tree, and Nativity scene. Earlier, candles had glowed in the
darkness as carols echoed from its ancient walls.
The house of God is such a beautiful place, the vicar
thought.
Locking the church door securely, he made his way home,
turning his face from the rows of people lying side by side in shop doorways,
swaddled in blankets and cardboard.
It never crossed his mind God would want them to sleep in His
house.
