They gathered to assess the newcomer. She came from another planet; that’s what they didn’t trust. Their expressions walked the line between curiosity and disgust. Was it her green skin they feared? Was it the way she stared for much too long to be acceptable in this place?
Her fiancé appeared shortly after; he held her gaze, eyes embracing her from a distance, waiting. The three officers assessed her visa papers.
‘Is everything okay?’ Her voice was gentle, without a perceivable accent.
‘It all seems acceptable, yes.’
After all, there was currently no evidence that green skin posed any risk.
