Introduction
This collection is a collection of seventy stories, each 240 words. They
were inspired by the first picture seen on my Twitter feed on a given day.
2.Books 4 April 2017 day.
Butterflies danced in Maisie’s tummy. “A new library just for children,” said Papa. "You can read the books there or you can bring them home.”
Just for children? And even better, this was something here for her. For once Papa was giving her all of the attention. Normally he was more interested in Robert.
"Is it far?" she asked as she trotted along beside Papa. He walked so fast it was hard to keep up. He was gripping her hand rather tightly as well.
"Not very far at all, sweetheart. You're going to love it."
It looked just like the school that Robert went to, with its red bricks and sash-cord windows.
Robert talked excitedly about books all of the time. “Just you wait until you can read, Maisie. You’ll love the adventures.” Sometimes he read to her. She loved the stories. Some had lovely pictures as well. The only trouble was he usually picked books about war and fighting. She rather thought she might like something a bit different. She couldn’t read, though. Not yet. It seemed to involve staring at the page for a long time. Were the stories supposed to jump off the pages into your head?
“Come on,” said Papa. He pushed open the heavy door. It creaked.
Maisie gasped. There were shelves and shelves of books. From the floor to the ceiling. Where had they all come from?
He nudged her towards a table covered in picture books. “Enjoy.”
Adventures tumbled out of the pictures. They walked out later with three more books for her to read at home. Reading, she decided, was definitely fun. She must remember not to turn the pages too quickly.
