Introduction
This collection is a collection of seventy stories, each 280 words. They were inspired by the first picture seen on my Twitter feed on a given day.
36. Dropbox
It was a wonder, a joy to behold, a thing of beauty and other clichés. It was a third back-up, after saving to the computer's own hard disk and the attached memory stick. Now as well she could access her work from any computer anywhere in the world.
She added in all the music files, the sheet music and the MP 3 files. Just as long as he remembered to have headphones but she felt she had to replace the ones that came free with her iPhone.
She uploaded files of free stuff, enticing people on to her newsletter. Maybe she could add a new book each month. Take down the old one first of course. It was beginning to look impressive, this folder of free materials. She couldn't believe her own generosity. Loss leaders, they called them, didn't they?
It was good for sharing material as well wasn't it? For when they were doing joint edits. She gave other people access rights. They were allowed to edit. It was a bit irritating, though, when they undid one of the edits she'd already completed. It was the whole point, though, she told herself. She must stop being so precious.
The box became full. She was spending more and more time deciding what to keep and what to do away with. The site kept telling her to upgrade to business.
Finally she pressed the button. She calculated how much more a month she needed to earn to justify this. In fact, though, it was harder to find the time to work because the business model came with so many fascinating extra features that she had to learn to justify the cost.
